When I began building Mountain Dulcimers, I looked at many instruments. Some excellent and some average. I knew from the start that I wished to build something that you’d want to pick up and play everyday. I compared many different body styles as well as construction techniques.
My goal was to design a dulcimer that would be a responsive instrument with a bold voice. Also being an extremely playable instrument up and down the fret board. I wanted to build something I wanted to play. The Acoustic Hourglass is the result.
The dulcimer has a very sweet sound, excellent projection and responsiveness with clear tones either flat picked, strummed or finger picking. A bit bigger than some dulcimers but not to big.
